How to Hang Multi Panel Wall Art (2 Piece, 3 Piece, 4 Piece and More)Updated 2 hours ago

Multi panel wall art creates a bold, gallery-style look. The key is spacing and alignment, so the full piece feels clean and intentional.

Before you start: understand the size on the website

The size you select on the product page is the total finished size of the full layout, not a single panel.

That total measurement includes:

  • all panels together

  • the standard 1 inch gap between each panel

So if you choose a larger size, you’re choosing the size of the full composition on your wall (with the 1 inch spacing included).

What you’ll need

  • Measuring tape

  • Pencil

  • Level (recommended)

  • Painter’s tape (optional but super helpful)

  • Your preferred hanging method (nails, picture hooks, or wall anchors depending on your wall type)

Step by step: hang it perfectly

1) Choose your wall position

Decide where the full composition will live:

  • Above a sofa/bed: centered over the furniture looks best

  • On an empty wall: centered on the wall or centered in the room’s sightline

2) Mark the full width first (not the panels)

Using the size you selected on the website, measure and lightly mark:

  • the left edge of the full composition

  • the right edge of the full composition

This keeps everything balanced from the start.

3) Plan the 1 inch spacing between panels

Multi panel art looks best with a consistent gap.

Keep 1 inch between each panel across the entire layout.

Tip: painter’s tape is perfect for marking the panel edges and the 1 inch gaps before you hang anything.

4) Start with the center panel

If your set has a middle panel (3, 5 panels), hang that one first.

If it’s a 2 or 4 panel set:

  • start with the two center panels or

  • start with the panel closest to center

Once the center is straight and positioned correctly, the rest becomes easy.

5) Use a level for each panel

Even if the first panel is straight, check every panel as you go. Tiny tilts become obvious when panels sit side-by-side.

6) Work outward, keeping gaps consistent

Hang the next panel, maintaining the 1 inch gap.
Repeat until all panels are up.

Step back every couple of panels and look at the full composition from across the room.

  • Keep panels at the same height (top edges aligned)

  • Maintain the same 1 inch spacing everywhere

  • If you’re between two placements, slightly higher usually feels more premium

Want to preview the layout first?

Try this quick test:

  • Use painter’s tape to outline the full size on the wall

  • Then tape vertical strips to represent each panel

  • Leave 1 inch gaps between them

In 2 minutes, you’ll know if the size feels perfect.
