Framed canvas sizing (how the frame changes the final size)

When you choose a Framed Canvas size on the website, it helps to know that the frame adds to the outer dimensions. In other words: the framed version will take up a bit more space on your wall than the canvas alone.

Key terms (simple)

  • Layout Size = the total size the finished piece takes up on your wall

  • Panel Size = the canvas size (art area)

  • Image Size = the printed area on the canvas (same as panel size for canvas)

1) Framed canvas single panel

For a single framed canvas:

  • Panel Size = Image Size

  • Layout Size = Panel Size + Frame (the frame increases the outer dimensions)

What this means:
If you’re measuring a wall or planning above furniture, plan for the framed outer size (the layout size), not just the canvas panel size.

2) Framed canvas multi panel (2 piece, 3 piece, 4 piece, etc.)

For multi piece framed canvas, the website size reflects the full framed composition:

Layout Size = (Panel Size + Frame) × Number of Panels + Gap

So each panel becomes slightly larger once framed, then the panels are arranged with spacing between them.

Frame adds size to each panel (example in the size guide: a 16×20 panel becomes 17×21 when framed).
