Why does my framed print have a white border?Updated 2 hours ago

For framed prints, the white border you see is intentional — it’s the passepartout (mat) that creates a clean, gallery-style presentation.

Standard white border size

Our framed prints use a white passepartout size of 2 inches.

What the white border does

The mat:

  • gives the artwork breathing room (more “gallery”, less “poster”)

  • visually separates the art from the frame

  • makes the overall piece feel more premium and balanced

Important sizing note (why the image looks smaller)

Because the passepartout is included, the visible image area will be smaller than the listed frame size. The frame size is the outer measurement of the finished framed piece, while the artwork sits inside with the 2" mat around it.

Example (how to think about it)

If you pick a larger framed print size, you’re increasing the overall framed presence on the wall — not only the visible image area — because the mat and frame are part of the finished dimensions.
